Windows Vista sucks

Seriously, why a new Windows? Even importantly, why a new Windows that is crappier than the previous one? There’s nothing new to Windows Vista since Windows XP except for sleekier looking graphics. Excuse me, but I don’t buy operating systems based on what they look like. Some other media-gullible twat probably does, but I could use Windows 95 just fine with it’s bare graphics design if the operating system itself was a bit more modern. Microsoft has assembled a fine list of all the all new, astonishing features of the new, anticipated Windows Vista, and it’s below, taken directly from www.microsoft.com:

  • Communications
Spend more time surfing the web and communicating with friends and family, and less time worrying. Windows Vista helps you stay in touch.

Oh my gosh, it does Internet too? You’re right, there’s no way I ever would’ve coped with the dozens of web browsers, thousands of messenger/chat/IRC programs and millions after millions of community websites with Windows XP. I seriously need the incompatible Vista with its 1 chat program and 1 web browser. I can use juat about any overpriced marketing dealed Logitech product to communicate with my friends, and pay $25 extra just to have some programmer just set a boolean value to true. The variety doesn’t suck, since Vista helps me make friends and forget all my worries and thus I can safely let loose of homework, job assignments, bills, taxes and basically everything because I have Windows Vista! Am I seriously the only one who sees through this?
  • Digital Memories
Enjoy your photos and home movies more easily than ever. Windows Vista makes it a snap to edit, organize, and share your memories.

Ummm… so does Windows XP. When I go to my “My Pictures” folder in Windows XP, I see all my photos and graphics neatly in their corresponding folders. When I want to edit one, I just right-click on it and select “Edit with Photoshop”. When I want to organize them, I select them and drag them around. If I want to share them, there’s this handy left vertical bar in the XP file browser where it says “Send this file as an e-mail attachment”. What ever could Vista do to make this even easier? Better, pre-installed drivers for Sony voice-recognizing microphones? Besides, I have no “memories” on my laptop. If this refers to the afformentioned photos and home movies, they are just files on my hard drive, zeros and ones in a row and I’ll be damned if my memories are alike.
  • Music
Play digital music like never before on your computer, on the go, and around your home with Windows Vista.

Oooh! Aaahh! Windows Vista plays music too?! Oh my God!! Idiots. And what does “like never before” do in that sentence either? What difference does Vista bring to clicking on a round button to play some music and clicking on it again to pause it? “Like never before”… could it be because the Play-button is a little lighter shade of blue than in the previous incarnation of the ultimate software for douchebags which some people call “Windows Media Player”?
  • Productivity
Wish you had an extra hour in your day? See how Windows Vista helps you get more done and manage your work and life.

Oh no. I got to confess, this feature really is good and makes all the difference. If Vista can really distort the curvature of space and travel back in time to an hour ago with one click to be more productive, I’ll definitely buy it, no matter what they billed me. And even if that was just an empty phrase (completely, utterly, fully and truly hypothetically speaking, of course - just if it was bullshit), I would still buy it, since it does everything for me. “Vista helps me get more done”. How can that be misunderstood? Vista writes, reads, programs, chats, plays, watches, surfs and listens for me, and I don’t have to do anything any more if I don’t want to. Or does that just mean a 3D version of the Paperclip?
  • TV & Movies
Wouldn’t it be great to watch your favorite TV shows and movies on your schedule—not the TV schedule? With Windows Vista, you can.

I can also do this with a digibox and if a good digibox costs about $60 these days and Vista costs already $580 and it hasn’t been even released, there’s simply a very hard choice indeed which to buy.
  • Windows Live
Bring your online world together. Windows Live makes it simpler to find the information you want, connect with people—and do it all more safely.

Excuse me, isn’t Windows Live Messenger just MSN Messenger with a different name? So I expect that this information I want is done with Windows Live Search (formerly MSN Search), connecting with people is done with Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger) and Windows Live Spaces (formerly MSN Spaces). Am I missing something here, but isn’t Microsoft just changing names of MSN services to Windows Live services with the same content and features than the MSN ones but all-new blue gradients and charging $580 per piece for it? Sounds extra-new and all unique to me. It just occurs to me that the same dilemma is happening with Vista itself: old Windows XP’s name is changed to Windows Vista with new sleek gradients and Microsoft is all set.
  • Data Backup and Security
See how powerful tools in Windows Vista Business help to save you time and give you the peace of mind that your data is protected.

LOL. I wanted to blurt that out for so long earlier during the writing of this list, but I could just hold for this long. Big - freaking - LOL. So let me get this straight: Microsoft wants to make one of the seven circles of hell… excuse me, editions of Vista able to burn shit on a DVD and just for that they can charge $75 extra - easily. Unbelievable. I cannot continue to the next superior “feature” on this rearmost list of torture without giving a reminder of the unbreakable security the first Windows - Microsoft BOB - gave it’s loyal users: behold, for one could set a password in it! It gets even better; a hacker could infiltrate to the system without braking a sweat - the system let anybody in anyway if they typed the password incorrectly three times. And even as almost 12 years has passed from that, still the Windows Firewall that came with XP is considered worse than freaking ZoneAlarm.
  • Sales and Marketing
Help your sales and marketing team compete toe-to-toe with bigger businesses by using the features in Windows Vista.

When you click on this feature on the Windows Vista website, you will get the following text:

In a small business, the tools you use every day to support your sales and marketing efforts are crucial.

…and a picture of some guy with a cheap tie having an expression that is probably equivalent to a smile. Oh, how right Microsoft is. Excel and PowerPoint are very crucial tools when managing any sales and marketing, not mention Windows Movie Maker and especially Solitaire and the all-new Windows Aero outfit. I’m sure that all companies in the world use these rather than professional software that is actually meant for businesses and not single moms to list their garage sale income on.

  • Financial Management
The way your small business manages its finances makes a huge difference in your profitability.

Yeah, right. Vista costs a healthy deal of $579 - more than a computer in Australia - just to get accounting and payroll software and a sleek Start-menu button. I have a better idea: why not buy Passeli Professional instead? Passeli Lite 2006 costs only $164 and it includes billing, selling ledger, online billing, customer- and product card index and much more. And it’s compatible with like Windows 95 or something. So no thank you, Microsoft, I will rather save money and buy better quality with less money than your crappy stuff.
  • Mobility
Make it easy for employees to communicate and connect to company information—whether they’re in the office, at home, or on the go.

Yet another feature completely inachievable with any other operating system. So now it’s suddenly Windows Vista’s deeds that I have a laptop which I can move around and a wireless receiver in it. Both things are utterly futile in XP. Vista seems to allegedly be able to create a WLAN connection out of thin air, whether I’m in the office, at home, or on the go. I have Windows XP in my laptop, and I can’t imagine what I can’t do as remote work with it than Vista. Except that Vista efficiently replaces my router, with its own over-awesome wireless business solutions. Crap, now I gotta buy it.

Everybody’s screaming how easy Vista is to use. Here’s a picture of the Vista Start menu:

Vista sucks - Fig. 1

They had to make a search bar in there just because the whole Start menu is full of long columns with micro-font and small icons of all kinds of things to click on that it’s would take 3 minutes to find what you are looking for at which point you have already forgotten what you were looking for. I will never buy Vista. Sorry Microsoft, but Vista is stupid. I don’t like it, and thus I will not get it. Period.

that is true, it sucks man,
I got the RTM and the start menu is so afustrating, a piece of crap, many services running in the background that you don’t need, and the worse of all, you cannot remove the crap of Windows Defender.
Really , I am thinking about Linux right now.

  2. RobC Says:

I thought you sucked with all the things you hate but as you agree with me on Vista I will just chuckle about the rest! :-)

  3. Jonathon Maller Says:

I refuse to learn more as my brain is just melting. I am looking forward to the holidays ending this year. Seems outr industry has slowed a lot this year.

  4. Mifleh Ahmad Says:

It really sucks i have rtm working, well, it looks pretty fancy, but really it sucks, no drivers, no nothing, is the same as Xp, and that stuff of user account control, yo have to keep with the computer as it was a baby, it cant do anything by its own. but it haves one pro, it looks nice.

  5. F Says:

Ah, the teen angst that’s so obvious here. Isn’t it consuming to hate some inanimate, immaterial thing this much?

And you could also try to learn to read the marketing material and undestand what they’re saying.

BTW, how much did you pay for your Photoshop+XP? A lot more than Vista, so isn’t it quite possible that it’s nice that Vista has some basic tools built-in? No? Everyone needs Photoshop?

And Windows Live is not just a name change, this would also be obvious if you’d take a minute to check it out. But that would mean reading, which is quite hard. And understanding is even harder! Ah, the headache…

Where can I get a digibox with recording capabilities for $60? Haven’t seen one, all cost $300+. So maybe you could stop comparing apples to oranges and, once again, undestand what they’re saying. Not capable of that? Didn’t think so either.

So, nice example of an article in the category “I have no clue about what I’m babbling but since it’s so cool to bash MS and Vista, I’ll have a go too.”

(And this comment will probably musteriously vanish from here since it’s not agreeing with your twisted view of the world, right?)

  6. sysrq868 Says:

No. I do not delete musteriously comments unless they are spam or full of inappropriate content and quite frankly I’m very surprised indeed that your comment didn’t fall to either of the categories.

You said that Live isn’t a name change. What is it then? MSN Search is now Live Search, MSN Messenger is Live Messenger, MSN Spaces is Live Spaces, MSN Hotmail is Live Mail, MSN Alerts is Live Alerts, MSN Book Search is Live Books, MSN Mobile is Live Mobile… call me paranoid, crazy and whatnot but there’s clearly some similarities there… I really can’t see what, but somehow I get this obnoxious déjà vu. I wonder why… very musterious indeed.

Oh! Now I get it! The real new Windows Live experience is the Live WiFi Hotspot Locator and Live Dev because they are the ultimate tools that everybody uses. Latter one being one for Live developers making even new and more inspiring Live tools. What’s next? Live Alcometer? Live TV Remote Gadget for Live TV? Live Rolando Merino’s Most Memorable Children’s Books Gadget For Toddlers Read By Microsoft Sam?

Windows XP costs $199 and is even less if it comes with your computer (which is still quite likely) and Photoshop CS2 is $649. Totals a healthy deal of $848. Vista is currently $579 + $649 for Photoshop = $1,228. Ouch. So instead of paying $850 for an usable Windows and professional and very extensive image editing software, you would pay $1,230 for only a slick-looking Windows with such handy tools as Paint, Image Organizer or Notepad and the extensive image editing software. Very interesting.

I think it’s you who doesn’t undestand. You don’t undestand that there’s really nothing to Windows Vista other than the gadgets and the live previews… oh! I almost forgot that they’ve been with Macs since the beginning of “shiny-era”, and that I’ve quite survived without those all these years.

It’s almost like you took all the sarcasm in this article for real. Or are you just hating me and my writings out of principle? Completely undestandable. No really, I do undestand you. I think you like Vista. You came home from elementary school with your times table practises, sat down next to your HP Brio 7100 with Windows 98 and decided to install the Vista demo and the first thing you thought was “Whoa! This looks so cool! That means it must be awesome!”

Also marketing material isn’t for reading. It’s just mostly propaganda when it comes to Vista - empty phrases musteriously making something not cool and new sound completely fresh and über. That’s something you should undestand.

  7. Rod Says:

Hahahah…I am going to keep coming back to this blog just for this article alone mate. It was the first article I have read on your site. Big thumbs up! And to the idiot that thinks vista is great….

Cracked Copy of Windows Xp (Which was actually leaked a couple days before microsoft released it) FREE! + A Cracked copy of Photoshop 6.0 FREE! = FREE!

There is somethings money cant buy, for everyother expensive piece of software there is piracy!!!

Now I am not promoting piracy, and I plan on actually buying the Photoshop C2 (considering it is a really piece of software) however Vista is pretty much worthless. It takes a crap load of reseources just to see a nice GUI (graphic user interface) and run a lot of stuff that you do not need in the background! If you are so much in love with the GUI then switch to apple at least you will get your moneys worth in terms of usable programs as well as having a decent piece of software.

    Windows sucks……Microsoft Sucks……Bill Gates Sucks………

By the way if MS is reading this…. you idiots are the ones that provided me with the product key that i needed over the phone….. THANK YOU MICROSOFT!

  8. steve Says:

i don’t know much, but i know i have to keep up to date with the latest os’s if i’m going to try to fix them, i’m runing rc2 and am not happy at all, i did like xp when it came out though. Vista is slow and confusing, wicked stupid and i don’t see my self ever getting used to it. Window 98 is the best thing micosoft ever did, i think. Only if you could stick to doing what they did right “making things easy”. VISTA SUCKS, SORRY WORLD

  9. James Says:

Why the hell are the “file edit view help” toolbar disappearing from apps and windows explorer. To change windows explorer settings to turn on exstentionsi had to go to control panel then go to folder options insted of just click tools > options. When i was in the control panel i found some stupid icons that had no relation to do with the acttually things they were mean to be changing. What is that stupid sidebar for that also looks stupid.
Why have the icons got bigger on the desktop and control panel, they look completely stupid. Why the hell do we need these new animated effects when minimizing a window that requires a top range graphics card.

when i clicked to change my screen res i was presented with a new gui which i though was cool just to find that it linked back to the old gui with just one tab, is the point in tabs not to have more than one!

Windows vistas amazing name changing has took 5 years of development and its completely awsome like cutting the my off of my computer, my documents etc. Then when looking for add remove programs i find it has been renamed “programs and features”.

Previously when i have upgraded from win2k to xp or from 98se to win2k i found no problems getting arround now i find my self saying “wheres that thing thats normally here”.

Windows vista still runs the user by default as administrator but now provides a stupid little prompt saying continue so when acttually wanting to just run as admin to setup the computer u find prompt after prompt prompting you.

on a positive i found windows vista had NFS, TFTP client and telnet server which all should have been built in years ago.

  10. sysrq868 Says:

Well, James. NFS’s, TFTP clients and telnet servers can be downloaded for free from remote manufacturers. And generally whatever Microsoft does is bad. I don’t know whether they do it for a reason. Is Paint (Microsoft) better than Photoshop (Adobe)? Is Solitaire (Microsoft) better than Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)? Is Internet Explorer (Microsoft) better than Firefox (Mozilla) or Opera (Opera)? Is Sound Recorder (Microsoft) better than Audacity (Audacity)?

I don’t think you should pay $570 for an animation effect and three otherwise free programs.

But hey, maybe the “all-new Vista experience” is just that? Trying to find all the tools that used to be just a couple of clicks away and spending if not days then weeks to get to use that damn thing.

I myself upgraded straight from Windows 95 to Windows XP and although yes, it was new and took some time to learn the new features and slick little tricks, it was still the somewhat logical Windows I knew. Vista comes from another planet, the 44 -page manual containing the same four pages in every language in the eastern continent somewhat doesn’t seem to be sufficient.

  11. Matt Says:

    sysrq868.

I agree with you about windows sucking, but you really really need to learn how to spell “UNDERSTAND” before you go calling everyone idiots…. makes you look real stupid.

You: “I think it’s you who doesn’t undestand. You don’t undestand that there’s really nothing to Windows Vista other than the gadgets and the live previews… oh! Maybe it’s a british thing…?

  12. sysrq868 Says:

    Matt.

Have you considered the fact (rhyme unintended) that I was fucking with the guy above my comment? Musteriously enough, it’s you who don’t undestand.

I mean, I find it quite odd that you jump in on a conversation without even reading it completely. And even so, you didn’t become any suspicious at all for me seemingly using a word so often that I can’t even spell. Yeah, it must be a British thing.

  13. Happy Mommy Says:

I do agree with your opinion….
Anyway I like your blog it’s sio nice,….

    Cheers

  14. Joshua Dudley Says:

To the writer of this original article: cheers mate. ha ha thats a joke about being British.

seriously someone needs to send a memo to the idiot who complained about a misspelling in an internet article on an independent blog. i guess he probably wrote it in ie for some reason. Firefox 2.0 allows me to right click and correct spelling errors in things.

anyway. i haven’t played with the new windows at all, but the price is awful compared with mac os x which is what you should be comparing it to, since it was built specifically to imitate that program.

Also, i love the sarcastic rantings about the standard Microsoft propaganda jargon used during the install feature. thats great that they still include that crap.

maybe they should just give up and have the best 3rd party programs like firefox, itunes, and skype preinstalled eh?

to conclude: ive read dozens of articles and opinions about vista but this was my favorite. just loads of fun to read.

  15. LeVar Says:

Ok…… so Vista is a hog. New PC sales are slow right now…. 3 yr old PCs are actually still fast PCs. How can Intel increase their business? Work with Microsoft to force people to buy new CPUs.

Ok… being for real… and I say as a person who’s being using Linux since Red Hat 6…. What are the “true” alternatives? Yes, Linux is more secure and WAY more stable… The distro’s come with just about every clone of a Microsoft product. But what about; Quickbooks, ACT! , Saleslogix, or any other business software. Most people would switch if they could without loosing the ability to run their company.

This is now a PERFECT opening to closing the gap. Linux advocates need to work with other key software companies to push Linux/Mac compatible releases.

I’ve been trying to completely switch since 2001… and I just can’t. I hate it hate it hate it. I can’t do my accounting and manage sales. This is key to running a company. I have yet to figure out how to get an Active Directory /Domain Controller in a Linux clone.

Hopefully we’ll see some improvements…. when is Wine coming out with a XP compatible platform?

  16. LeVar Says:

Spoke too soon http://www.winehq.com released a few weeks will allow just about all of what i was talking about!!!!

Now let’s test and see how well it work ;)

    My fingers are crossed…

  17. David Says:

So, after agonizing (because I thought $160 for upgrade is way overpriced) about making the jump to Vista when the retail version came out, I decided to take the chance. After all, I ran it on a HP pavillion without a hitch, other than finding a driver that would work with the Linksys wireless card, but eventually found one. Although RC1 seemed a bit buggy, it was still stable (on the pavillion), and believe it or not I never got the blue screen of death. At least not until I shelled out $160 bucks for the retail version. AHHHHHHHH! I could not believe it! Nightmare come true! I installed it on my custom built Athlon 64 3700+ system and it was blue screen from the start. Everything was crashing. Sidebar would go down, then Host service, IE would die, so many things where crashing I lost track. Vista kept telling me that the blue screen crash was being caused by my Radeon 1600 video card not having the proper drivers. So I attempted to download them from ATI/AMD. I finally managed to get them, just to have vista tell me the installer was corrupted when I attempted the install. I downloaded the drivers several times with same result. Finally, I was able to download onto a relatives laptop, and burn the file to CD. Got it installed, and still got the blue screen of death. Same kaotic system malfunctions as before.

Oh, almost forgot. During all this kaos, I tryed to validate Vista, just to be told the copy of Vista I was using was not valid!!! I bought it at Office Depot! Of course this may of just been a another system anomaly.

Whats unbelievable, is that all of the hardware in my system is name brand stuff. ASUS K8N-VM motherboard, ATI 1600 video card, Maxtor HD, Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, etc., and even after 5 years of development, and 2 RC versions, Vista still does not ship with the appropiate drivers!

I finally gave up and reinstalled XP. Solid as a rock.

    My conclusion. VISTA SUCKS!

  18. John K. Says:

Or you could just by a Mac? I’ve been a happy Apple customer for 14 years and counting.

    winBLOWS remember?

  19. sysrq868 Says:

    Sorry.

  20. houthakker Says:

you forgot to mention the driver compability. Vista doesn’t accept uncertified drivers. Half of your hardware WONT work with Vista simply becouse it doesn’s accept its driver.

  21. Commando226 Says:

I toyed with vista Over the past weeked. and I have to say it does suck
The program does look pretty but there are way too many drawbacks
First you can’t do anything with this program. There are so many safequards built in the you need to be god just to run anything from the command prompt. I got tired of windows telling me I am not authorized to run xyz.
Second it does not let you use MS Mail for HTTP base E-mail
Third you can no longer back up your music lincenses(What the Hell)
The boot up time is too long
programs take too long to run(I have dual core 1gig ram etct)
Setup time is in excess of an hour
The anti piracry safeguards hamper the system
It is difficult to go from one task to an other not, to metention giong from your c: drive to My documents is problematic at best
Last but not the least I am so sick of having to buy New Hardware and all new programs just to run Windows(my brand new sound card does not intall right even with drivers from sound blaster web site)
what the hell, what the hell, what the hell

It is time well all told Micosoft that we are not going to buy thier product any more. Thinking about trying unix or lunix for the first time in over ten years of using Windows.

It is a pretty looking GUI no noubt

  22. DudeMan Says:

In all reality, KDE has been doing all these GUI effects longer then apple or MS.

  23. x Says:

FUCK VISTA, don’t spill words, skip it!

  24. Vista Refund Says:

Stand by for a day or so–information will be released soon on how to get a refund for Vista. I personally would like to have a mass consumer vote by not accepting this product. I am out $400 for Vista, not counting the time wasted installing and attempting to troubleshoot problems that should not exist.

The site http://www.vistarefund.info will be online soon. It does not collect money, advertise or attempt to sell anything. Just an information source that the informed can use to end this madness.

  25. sysrq868 Says:

    Thumbs up, once it’s online!

  26. Urk Says:

I crashed Solitaire on Vista today. Need I say more?

  27. growlpanther Says:

I have a new Dell XPS with a 2.1 GHZ coreduo processor and 2 Gb of ram. This machine had Vista preinstalled. After three weeks of fighting this thing, I am not happy with microsofts new slower bloated operating system. I cant even play music without the audio dropping out. This thing locks up and freezes constantly, this is another windows ME. This damn thing runs the processor to death and is a memory hog. Something in the background is almost constantly accessing the hard drive even when the machine is idle. So far, none of my old XP software will run on it and attempting an install causes errors and pop up boxes that requires a system restore to get rid of the problem. I still have my five year old IBM Netvista with win XP pro sitting next to the new machine, thankfully I didn’t donate that one when I got the new machine. It’s a first generation pentium 4 with XP pro and will run circles around the new Dell! Considering that it took five years and the cost of the Apollo moon program back in the 1960s to develop this monstrosity, I am not impressed. The only solution I have come up with to make the new Dell a useful machine is to find a copy of the most recent XP media center edition, format the hard drive to exorcise the vista demon and install XP.

  28. uGek Says:

LOL, well said F!! This article was really of no help at all. It did not provide any true objective view of this product. The only issue I’ve had with Vista so far is the lack of driver support and I just built my new machine a few months back with components that were supposed to be Vista ready! The components do work but not with all of their “specific hardware built-in” features. At the end however it’s not Microsoft’s responsibility to develop the “Specific Drivers” for each component, its the manufacturer’s.

  29. sysrq868 Says:

But I think it’s somewhat obscene that Vista doesn’t allow drivers that haven’t passed the Windows logo test or whatever at all, even if they worked just fine. It’s not Microsoft’s responsibility to act like a kindergarten teacher either.

And what “help” exactly were you to find from this article? It’s just me expressing my opinions, making fun of their marketing material, that’s all. I’m very well aware that this is not exactly everything that’s wrong with Vista.

I have been Reading the Blog. And I Do agree Vista Sucks. Freind of mine was using it on his computer he had his drives Partioned to he could keep his Xp. His Computer Had 1gb of RAM 160harddrive, 3.2gz dual core 512mb videocard. It chewed RAM it took over 512mb to run vista 1.8gz just to boot Vista. Not to mention It was slow as hell. Once u got in to vista it looked cool, but had no Help support, unable to detect Devices unable to install drives…… Phus all the Annoying programs runing in the background. Almost im posible to use the DOS Promped. IT Got so many F!!ing “SAFE Gruads” That really don’t work :P And you can’t turn them off ether! It so easy to hack And get around any safe gruads that are in place. Vista and Intel Combined force to Piss people off even more.

Has anyone got in to the store looking for a new PC or Parts to build ur own, but only have a sales person try and Sell you vista even if you didnot ask for Vista U asked for XP or ME or Just the Parts you went in to the store looking for. And end up Haveing a Argument with the sales Manager about them try to tell u to buy “Vista”. Well I have! It was quite fun. :P
The new computers that vista comes preinstalled on are good computers there Great and there Cheap. Just ask for no Vista. only XP.

What i guess im staying is Microsoft has made a big misstake tradeing preformance for Graphics.

    Vista Sucks,

VISTA IS A MAJOR SYSTEM HOG USING WAY TOO MUCH MEMORY TO RUN IT.
MAKING IT SLOWER THAN THE XP RIGHT OFF THE BAT.

NO LIE IT TOOK ME 48 HOURS JUST TO “SCAN” A FILE WITH VISTA THAT TOOK WINDOWS XP ONLY 8 HOURS. KEEP IN MIND BOTH LAPTOPS HAVE 2 GIGS OF RAM.

    VISTA IS VERY CONFUSING.

TO GET TO CONTROL PANEL ICONS IN VISTA, IT TAKES 3 TIMES AS LONG AS XP HAVING TO CLICK THROUGH SO MANY PAGES TO GET TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND TIME CONSUMING.

EVERY PROGRAM I INSTALLED HAD TO BE MADE COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS XP.
(IT WAS NOT FUN AT ALL)

I GOT ENDLESS SECURITY AND OTHER WARNING POP UPS UNTIL I DISABLED UAC.

THERE ARE ALMOST NO SOUND OPTIONS AND CHOICES IN VISTA. (AND WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER OPTIONS)

THERE ARE MANY OTHER BAD THINGS I COULD POST ABOUT VISTA BUT LONG POSTS DON’T GET READ.

I HAVE SEEN NO BENEFITS AT ALL FROM VISTA, ONLY HEADACHE AND A MAJOR WASTE OF TIME.

TRUST ME WHEN I SAY, THE WORLD IS NOT READY FOR VISTA AND VISTA IS NOT READY FOR THE WORLD.

NEXT TIME YOU BUY A BRAND NEW COMPUTER, INSIST IT HAS WINDOWS XP.
JUST DO NOT BUY IT WITH VISTA UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO WIPE IT CLEAN AND USE WINDOWS XP, PROVIDING IT IS ABLE TO EVEN RUN XP.

LONG LIVE WINDOWS XP AND LONG LIVE THE COMPUTERS ABLE TO RUN IT!!!!

I work at a very large internet company(cant disclose unfortunatly) and we arent even moving to IE7 in the near future because of the flaw with it. stick with XP or move to MAC. the new intel MAcs run XP and OSX so you have the best of both worlds.

I just bought my first brand new computer from Dell. In the past I have had fair luck by cobbling together old computers or parts of computers to get by. My dream was to have a new computer with a state of the art elegant OS and not have to deal with the problems of old crap.
My Dell computer came with the promise of an upgrade to Vista. Four months later the disk arrived and I upgraded. Three days later I put my computer in a box and sent it back to Dell. The ony way I can describe the experience is by comparing it to trading in my old Chevy PU, which runs pretty good , for a new bicycle with two flat tires. No thanks Microsoft.

VISTA really sucks , XP also sucks and any other software that needs to be ‘ACTIVATED’ ! Good SOFTWARE does exaxtly what it is told BY THE USER , NOT the company that produced it. VISTA and XP can and will be killed any time Microsoft wants to kill ‘em. NO reason to purchase ANY software that requires activation. I still enjoy using older software I purchased YEARS ago without any problems . New software tactics will NOT ALLOW the end user to collect software for later use legally. I DO NOT WANT TO RENT SOFTWARE , I WANT TO BUY IT TO USE IT ANYTIME I WANT OR NOT BUY IT AT ALL.

  39. BILL Says:

yes vista really sucks, ive never been so frustrated in my life, it wont let ya do a damn thing, or install anything, i cant even open some folders, says access denied, and i have full permission set to access, and the list goes on and on and on, of the things i cant install, omg, i could go on all day, but what i really want to say, is i think this is so bad, u dont have any control, over anything, ur at the os’s command, it controls u.. anyway, i think this is such a disaster, that microsoft, should do a recall of this bogus software, or at least offer a refund, to anyone, who has had the displeasure of this thing,,, i HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. ~steve Says:

Ok, this is kinda getting a little ridiculous. Nobody has even seemed to notice that this is now a battle between a few people and NOT about the before mentioned topic of choice, VISTA.
Hey guys, my name is steve and have been a long time windows user and soon to be experimenting with a flavor of linux.
AAAnywho I work to repair and sell computers at a fairly well to do store by the name of best buy. I have used vista since the RC1 candidate, and now am currently dual booting xp pro/vista ultimate.
Right now I am typing this with mozilla in my ultimate and am struggling to
get my music to run in the background, whilst I type.
To be frank I could give a rats ass about drivers… I mean what do you guys expect, this damn thing to be perfect from the get go? If anyone here can help me go back to the xp release what happened as well?
Not AS many driver issues but still they were there. Point being, this OS is optional, if you don’t have to, don’t upgrade. It’s really that simple.

Day in and day out I see computers coming back in droves to us in the store because of stupid issues that MS could have fixed about 5-6 billion dollars ago… such as the stupid flip 3-d feature, doesn’t work unless you have a decent video card, memory will pretty much get fried if it isn’t fairly new (yes I lost a pair of 1gig 3200’s at once from vista) random blue screens from explorer suddenly shutting down and restarting for no apparent reason.

After all this I have come to a simple analogy… vista is like a two year old kid… if you let it do it’s own thing, it’s gonna get into trouble.

I finally got my copy working pretty good; and this is how I did it…

    1. TURN OFF THE DAMN FIREWALL… IT SUCKS
    2. INSTALL PC TOOLS OR PRISMA FIREWALL
    3. TURN OFF UAC, IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE INSTALLING THEN YOU DON’T NEED IT.
oh btw xp drivers DO work on vista and NO they do not have to be digitally signed, if you turn off UAC it wont like to install programs and drivers, but it does :) I got my X-FI sound card, and my dynex wireless USB, both are currently working with xp drivers just fine.
    4. GET AD AWARE SE, BLOW OFF WINDOWS DEFENDER( however it does a decent job for daily scans, but I wouldn’t trust it to run my entire system protection forever)
    5. THE FINAL ONE, AND THE BIGGEST HIT TO MS… STOP USING IE7. JUST STOP!
Since when, after how many years of using this, who made the decision to hide the FILE command you now have to use alt to even get it to come out of its hiding, and who in gods name decided to change CTL-P(PRINT) to ALT-R!!! wtf… The stop button is on the right? what were they thinking?

There is a free web browser by the name of Mozilla Firefox that has won countless awards from the better protection, and customization it offers over IE7( oh and just to clear things up firefox has had tabs for a few years now… and big brother IE7 pretends this is a new feature) BLEH!

This is now the last forum I will educate in the hopes that if you HAVE to upgrade please please please wait at least for the first service pack and save a little cash for immediate parts upgrading( memory, video card )
I hate dealing with vista, but when you fix these computers everyday it makes it hard if you don’t know all the features out there THAT is why I actually laid money down for ultimate(though in my opinion there is almost no difference between it and its little bro premium)
FWI the manufacturing of XP will stop december of 07 if I remember correctly
Just have someone build it and have XP put on it.

I appreciate those who sat and actually read this post. You won’t regret it.
My facts are not biased, and I know what the hell I am talking about so, if you want to listen to Microsoft suck ups… go right ahead, but I am warning you in advance to get multiple opinions from different stores and websites.
If you have to get a new computer that is built, talk to somebody who is NOT on commission, so you know they aren’t selling you a piece of junk.

Ask them up front, and if they are like me… they will tell you the truth.*(or should if they know whats good)*

Microsoft SAYS it will support updates for XP untill 2012. We shall see.

Oh some of the posts in this board have been copied from one website to another. Great people, awesome original posts!
Lastly where the hell are the moderators for this site??? or at least some filters, crap!

  45. sysrq868 Says:

Well, firstly, this is not a board - just a “blog” post and its comments - “replies”.

And I’m here to moderate comments - get rid of spam, merge double comments and delete really really offensive comments (none yet). What kind of moderation do you need? I have spam filters. I disencourage censorship. What needs to be moderated?

  46. ~steve Says:

    Ok, sorry to ramble….

  47. Gwaur Says:

I heard that Internet Explorer got tabs but the file explorer did not. Sense? :P I can’t understand why a file browser and a web browser could not be merged together. Konqueror is a fine example of the fact that the concept of a program that’s both a file and web browser works well!

  48. ~steve Says:

THIS is what I’m taking about, you can’t even express opinions without somebody getting mad and them putting what they want completely missing the whole point of what is commonly known as an OPINION!. The post above Gwaur… So what if I did ramble? I bet that was a hard pill to swallow. You still had to take this horse pill down like a reality check didn’t you?
Your probably a MS suck up aren’t you? If not I think I see a little brown starting to show up…
    …ass.
Oh and by the way my name is not steve… I have never put my first name ANYWHERE online, and never plan to.
Anyway, sysrq868… I respect that this is not a board, rather a blog… but what purpose does the comment below yours serve?

  49. sysrq868 Says:

Firstly, I was delighted when Gwaur commented, he’s somewhat of a friend of mine… or rather, an acquaintance. And I can tell you pretty shortly, that he is not in anyway a MS-fan. The exact opposite, to be precise.

And I also support the ideology that if one has more than five words to say, it merits a comment. I just don’t see what for did you get that frustrated.

But gladly enough, you hate Vista, just like everyone should. I respect that.

  50. ~steve Says:

NOOOO not your friends the one above it…

  51. sysrq868 Says:

  52. ~steve Says:

The point I’m trying to make simply put, that was not my comment. I apologize if I made it sound like I was getting on your friend, I was not.

  53. Christin Says:

I just installed ubuntu feisty on my Sony Vaio ( 1 CD). Everything worked out of the box, installed faster and cleaner than the (4 CD) windows recovery and driver bundle than came from the manufacturer of the laptop!

Beryl+Compiz beats the graphics capabilities of the Windows Vista displays hands down - doesn’t hog resources and gives me the control to tweak it or turn it off when I have to do large calculations (which is rare since it’s light on resources).

The Gimp graphics capabilities are pretty darn impressive. Gaim accesses all major messaging clients at once with no ads, etc. I’ve found open source replacements for everything I’ve used on windows in the past (in most cases better software). Built-in pdf distillers. Ubuntu will automatically resize the partition table for you and setup dual boot with Windows (and it’s an easy mod now to write to NTFS files systems from Windows and use Windows space as extra storage for Ubuntu) - mind you Windows isn’t as polite more often than not.

So I’m happy with my $700 clearance Sony Vaio that I bought the day before Vista was released. While my partner’s father has $3K top of the line toshiba that runs slow (mind it has a nicer processor and more memory than my laptop) and he can’t install anything on or do anything with - oh yeah it has Vista on it.

Windows has always sucked and the company will support projects that LOSE money to drive a better competitor into the ground and keep their monopoly on the average PC user (the copy of windows that comes pre-installed on a computer–only works on that computer and contributes at most marginally to the cost of the computer, they make money by getting people trapped in the proprietary software cycle - Need office? Need this add-on? - we got it!).

Ubuntu+(Host of Open Source Tools)=Free (legally)

More interesting ON THE SAME COMPUTER WITH XP the hard drives are silent. Thats right NO JOKE! XP silent only noise is when read and write. But with VISTA BANG BANG GROWL GROWL CLINK ZIP!

I play an online game called Dark Age Of Camelot and on xp it ran just fine now on my brand new computer with more HD and Ram it lags like you would never beleive. 58. sysrq868 Says:

I think calling something you seem to cherish “shit” makes it perfectly clear to everyone that you are an utter idiot yourself. This visage is further enhanced with the fact that only a true idiot will misspell something so easy as “idiot”.

You’re also expressing a theorem of yours (no doubt) that only gay people and nerds play games. Oh, oh, you’re the Mac-users’ picture of PC users: I bet you get an orgasm when you see pie charts, x-ending Office documents… and the calculator, that’s sooo great.

I guess you got Vista, found out that you can’t play games but just CAN’T sacrifice that sleek sidebar and… oh my God, transparent windows?! So, to fill out the part in your computer life that formerly was games and good games, you now write pompous and illiterate comments on random Google search result websites. Man, you are sad. If you indeed are a man, I’m not sure - monkeys and babies write better English than you.

  59. Commenter Says:

I have to agree with you on this one. Vista is Microsoft’s new $200 (or more) theme.

5 months ago i got a cracked version of Vista Ultimate and i did installed it on my new laptop (Core2Due T7200 2GHz - 4MB L2Cash and 4GB ram and VGA Nvidia512 MB) and guess what i didnt face any problems (hardware or software), very stable and fast and i got used to it…

  62. Commenter Says:

Maybe, but that doesn’t cover up the fact that its utterly useless. Useless things suck.

  63. Adam Says:

Vista is superior to XP in more than just looks. Providing your machine is’nt ancient you should have a very nice experience.

    Vista over XP:

Vista has taken every gadget I connect without a single driver from me
XP needed lots of driver feeding
Vista - Lots more to do with images, + thumbs on desktop.
The whole C: drive structure is more logical in vista.
Sound recorder has new features in vista, lost a few too.
Vista makes you actually feel like a MAC FAG.
Vista will make you gay like a Mac user.
If you want that cocky Mac feeling, get vista! It’s the same OS.

So I say vista all the way up the poop-shoot bitches!!!

  64. Windows Vista Says:

THATS RIGHT BITCHES, BOW DOWN BEFORE MY ALMIGHTY COCK!

ANYONE THAT DOESN’T CONFORM TO MY SUPERIOR OPERATING SYSTEM SHALL BE SMITED BY THE WRATH OF THE SUPREME ONE HIMSELF!!!

THATS RIGHT I’M TALKING ABOUT MY GOD…BILL MOTHERFUCKING GATES.

  65. 2Adam Says:

    Adam,
Vista is a resource hog. The features you are listed are available for XP as third-party software… I have an XP laptop, i have my WindowsXP looking exactly like Vista (just for fun i did it a while ago). Side bar, icon preview for task bar, trasparent theme, icons, wallpaper, login-screen… guess what? It works VERY fast on my laptop. And it’s a single core P4 (2.4ghz, 1gb ram).

So, my point is this: Vista has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING new, it contains useless applications integrated into it (that are available online for free anyway), it takes up resources, slows down productivity. The new slogans for Vista are simlpy dumb, the security is a joke (that includes UAC, Defender, IE security, and the whole system)…. And it took 5 years to build? In addition, most of the features are ripped of OSX.

Vista sucks! I prefer XP. When MS will stop XP support, i’ll install Ubuntu on my PC and get myself a new iMac (i still have my old G4 Mac, with OSX Tiger, which runs faster than even XP.. consider G4 i have is 400mhz :))

Vista - the eeew starts now.

  66. ~steve Says:

Hey I just want to make things perfectly clear here….Monkies kick all kinds of ass! And as far as babies? They don’t kick lots of ass…but they make lots of poop out of their ass! On a whole other level Baby Monkies do both…very well imo! Those two things (especially the latter) are what make me orgasm.

Me thinks the english of me, its the most bestest then you’re mothers, i can be not what i eat pasta. VISTA IS GUD U BUY NOW K!

  67. ~steve Says:

  68. DJ Weasel Says:

I do agree that windows vista is probably the desperate ass end of an idea by microsoft to make more money. I own many, many computers, all of wich runs XP, My newest PC ran (as in did but not no more) Vista, and here is what i found wrong with it.

1.) If you love music, and need to use external hard drives, you better read the box. Any external Hard drive that came out prior to vista release will not work on vista.

2.) Hardly any software is compatible with vista unless it was made for vista.

3.) Vista is extremely slow, now put XP on a Vista machine, and its like ATARI 2600 meets XBOX360, as far as speed goes.

4.) forget about multi monitor support, backwards compatability, thats all out the door. I wasted soooo much money trying to get my machine to run more than 1, 2, or 3 monitors at the same time.. Online it says “that feature will not be availible untill 2010 or later”….When you need it now, you need it now.

5.) All vista really is… Quote ” It’s a suped up sloooooower version of windows XP, with alot less to offer.” Maybe somewhere in the box in fine print it says “for full features feel free to order disk 2…lol”

  69. FredV Says:

Vista is a wonderful example of what happens when the main paramount for design comes from corporate and government interests rather than user needs. The corporate part, DRM, etc… I’m sure you’re all aware of but did you know this Fact?: The National Security Agency (NSA) had a big hand in the design of Vista. Why? They need to be able to hook into virtually any computer worldwide as a matter of jUS national security. Can they be trusted to use that power propitiously and with discretion? Well just look at their record. The fact is that NSA has been and is above the law and even Congress can’t get to the bottom of how they operate.

I just can’t understand the price basdhing. I don’t know how t is where you live but here it’s the same fucking price as XP. Retail XP PRO UPG is now more expensive than Vista Ultimate UPG at Futureshop…. If you really care abouti t ,just get the OEM at $140 and STFU, or even get it free.

I don’t care about the ressource usage TBH. My CPU always idle at 0-2%, I never even use 75% of my RAM, My HDD only gets heavily accessed in the first 2 days after installing…. Vista spiking the CPU was fixed like 2 months after his release so just update it for the hell of it…. It wasn’t even there on the betas…

  72. Jack RatKiller Says:

MS-DOS > Windows 98SE > XP > Vista > next-gen heavier, slower, clumsier, visually prettier corporate product people still dare to call an “OS”.

We all (… with 3 digits in our IQ and some experience with computers) know that, and have for a while now.

That won’t change the fact that it’s the many and not the one who rules the world, and the many elected Bush twice.
